Walmart UX/UI
Company: Rockfish Interactive (TCC) Role: UX/UI Design Consultant
THE PROBLEM
With a limited number of tablets available at store locations, employees were often delayed in completing their tasks while waiting for a device. The internal application was originally designed exclusively for tablet use, creating bottlenecks in daily operations.
The Solution
Scale down the tablet application for a mobile environment
Simplify the UI for smaller screens
Remove unnecessary content wherever possible
Leverage native mobile UI patterns for familiarity and usability
The Benefit
By making the application available on smartphones, employees could access it instantly, dramatically improving productivity in the inventory department. The solution was so successful that it was rolled out company-wide
wireframes
Even though UI files from the tablet design were available, I followed my wireframing process to build up to the final mobile UI. This approach allowed me to focus on functionality within the mobile context and identify the most effective solutions for the product.
Simplify the ui & content
One key area was the step tracker at the top of the page. Instead of displaying text for every step, I only showed the text for the current step, freeing up space while keeping the feature functional and clear.
Leverage native ui components
Some tablet components, such as the calendar, needed to be reimagined for mobile. By leveraging native mobile UI components and interactions, the redesign felt intuitive and familiar to users, improving usability and reducing the learning curve.
