Walmart UX/UI

Company: Rockfish Interactive (TCC)   Role: UX/UI Design Consultant

THE PROBLEM

With a limited number of tablets available to employees at store locations, staff would be delayed in performing their job duties while waiting for a device.  This internal application was originally designed and built for tablet use only.

The Solution

  • Scale down the current tablet application for a mobile environment

  • Simplify the UI

  • Remove unnecessary content (if possible)

  • Leverage the native mobile UI patterns

The Benefit

Any employee with a smartphone could instantly download the application.  As a result, work productivity in the inventory department improved dramatically and the product was rolled out  throughout the company employee use.

wireframes

Although I had access to the UI files from the tablet design, it was important to stick with my wireframe process and build up to a final UI.  This helped me concentrate on the functionality within the mobile space to find the best solution for the product.

Simplify the ui & content

One area that I needed to simplify for the mobile experience was the step tacker at the top of the page.  By removing the content for every step and only displaying the text for the step the user was currently on, freed up space to still be able to include that feature.

Leverage native ui components

Some of the items that were developed for the tablet version (i.e. Calendar) worked in that space, but needed to change for mobile.  I leveraged as many native UI components and functionality into the redesign.  These mobile interactions are not only better for the experience, but most users are familiar with their functionality.
